China Drives 27% Growth in Cambodia’s Trade, Hits $5.6B in Q1 2024

According to the latest report from Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise, bilateral trade between Cambodia and China reached $5.637 billion in the first four months of 2024, marking a 27% increase compared to the same period last year ($4.481 billion in 2023). China remains Cambodia’s largest trading partner.



Trade Breakdown (Jan-Apr 2024):

  • 🇰🇭 Cambodia’s exports to China: $478 million (down 1.7% YoY)

  • 🇨🇳 Cambodia’s imports from China: $5.215 billion (up 30.5% YoY)


Investment Dominance:The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) reported that 56.2% of the $2.5 billion in approved investment projects during Q1 2024 came from China, solidifying its position as Cambodia’s top investor.

  • 📊 Total international trade: $19.505 billion (*+17% YoY*)

    • 📤 Exports: $9.137 billion (*+14% YoY*)

    • 📥 Imports: $10.368 billion (*+19.7% YoY*)

Key Trade Partners:

  1. 🇺🇸 United States (2nd largest): $3.298 billion (*+22.6% YoY*)

    • Exports to U.S.: $3.2 billion (*+22.3% YoY*)

    • Imports from U.S.: $97.82 million (*+34.8% YoY*)

  2. 🇻🇳 Vietnam (3rd largest): $3.225 billion (*+7% YoY*)

    • Exports to Vietnam: $1.789 billion (*+4.5% YoY*)

    • Imports from Vietnam: $1.435 billion (*+10.3% YoY*)

Other major partners include Thailand, Japan, Canada, and Indonesia.
